我的Ireland行（剛剛補了後記） 還好有這本書陪著我 時間才不至於過的太慢
在Ireland 就看完了大部份的書 回來兩天後 就整本看完
好久沒看到讓我覺得可以叫 page turner 的書了
Anderson Cooper 現在是CNN的主持人 - Anderson Cooper 360° 是他的節目
最近幾年在New York City的new york countdown（新年倒數） 都是他主持的

他在書裡有講了一段他主持這個全世界最受矚目的新年倒數 的想法 
Anderson Cooper長期被懷疑是gay 
可是 我情願相信 他只是一個自律的聰明帥哥
這本書 Anderson Cooper以回憶錄的方式 
寫他的童年 他的人生 寫他早期戰地記者的故事 寫Katrina

Anderson來自非常富裕的家庭
在紐約中央公園東邊的高級大公寓長大
他有一個非常有名的媽媽 Gloria Vanderbilt

他的曾祖父的雕像 就被放在紐約中央車站（central station）
Anderson說他小時候 以為每個人的曾祖父 在死後 就會變成雕像
這大概是他整本書裡 唯一"可愛"的地方.
人們很容易用一個人的家庭背景來"解釋"人
來自以為可以只靠人的家庭背景就能"洞悉"別人
Anderson Cooper 來自很好的家庭
但他的家庭背景 遠比我以為的 有名氣 更複雜
他生於1967年
家庭的名氣 來自他媽媽那一邊
他媽媽Gloria Vanderbilt是比Paris Hilton還有名的heiress （女繼承人）
Vanderbilt 家庭在十九世紀時 在美國建立了鐵路和運輸王國 
Cornelius Vanderbilt 在那個時代 是全世界最有錢的人之一
紐約市的Grand Central Terminal （中央車站） 就是他家蓋的
延著車站的一條路 甚至被命名做 "Vanderbilt Avenue"
Vanderbilt University 就是Cornelius Vanderbilt捐錢創立的大學
在美國還蠻有名氣的. 算是不錯的大學.
Gloria在她15 個月大時 就繼承了4 million dollar 的trust fund
Gloria的媽媽 一直在巴黎和美國之間 來來往往的旅行
被視為 很不適任的媽媽
後來Gloria的阿姨 跟她媽媽 爭Gloria的爭護權 
這個事件 當時天天是報紙的頭條

這是Anderson Cooper 寫在書裡的一段話
這裡講到的traumas 應該指的就是上面那個監護權爭奪 對他媽媽小時候的傷害
關於他的故事 在書裡前前後後斷斷續續的提到 
還蠻戲劇化的
我就不多講 留著給想看的人去讀吧.

不只一個人跟他說 "Foreign countries are getting better care than we get."
美國人不想要出兵伊拉克 不管在這個戰爭中 美國可以拿到多少利益
都不是老百姓可以馬上感受到的
CNN上 美國一下子幫這個國家 一下子幫那個國家 （美國人就是雞婆）
自己國家的國難 卻是一發不可收拾
難得看到一本從圖書館借回來的書 看完後 還想自己去買一本回來放.

北加州的遊記要繼續寫下去
就要先來講我在那次旅行買的唯一紀念品
一本書 書名是Goodbye God, I'm Going to Bodie
後來 我們還是去了美國西部最大的ghost towns之一  Bodie
書是我在Bodie的博物館裡買的
我對鬼城的故事太有興趣..這本書 我印象中 在兩天內就看完了（小小一本書）
之前提過
美國西部 有很多城市 在淘金潮時期非常非常熱鬧 
礦坑被採空了 居民也離開了
這些城市就變成了鬼城
所謂的鬼城 並不是有鬼 ...而是指 一個已經沒有人居住的城市..
我來自擁擠的台灣  實在很難想像鬼城這種東西..

上圖紅色的星星 就是Bodie
現在是加州州立公園
離Highway 395還要走一段路況很不好的沙石路約15 miles
因為位在海拔8375 feet的山谷間 
冬天積雪會很深
每年開放的時間有限
1859年William S. Bodey發現這個地方 
1861年開始有了第一個礦坑
到了1880年
這個城市的人口達到10,000!! （要記得 我們講得是一百多年前的美國人口!）
短時間人口爆炸的城市
擁進來的 多數是層次很低 生活不下去 只能冒生命危險做礦工的人
一個滿是惡人的城市 治安自然非常不好
酒吧、紅燈區（red light district） 一間接著一間 甚至還有Chinatown
傳說中 在Bodie 每天都會有一個人被殺!
跟Campo Seco不一樣的是
Bodie有很多建築物都還在
蠻大一片的..真的要走完 
可能要花上半天.
遊客不多 有的地方 真的蠻陰森的. 
話說回來Goodbye God, I'm going to Bodie這本書
書裡的小女主角 在她很小的時候 被爸爸媽媽從Ohio帶到Bodie
因為她家需要錢
詳細的故事我就不多說 給想自己看這本書的人留點空間
因為書是用日記的方式寫
看著小女孩的日記 感覺上 好像回到了那個一百多年前的罪惡之城
excerpt:"Sometimes I feel so frightened living here in Bodie. There are shootings and robberies and stage holdups almost every day."
"Mama has to walk me to school because even the good side of town is dangerous."
小女孩和爸媽住在Bodie比較好的區
即使如此 她媽媽每天還是得陪她走去學校 因為 Bodie到處都有搶劫、槍擊事件..
那個時候的Bodie 礦坑是日日夜夜都在運作的
住在Bodie的小女孩 每分每秒都要忍受巨大的噪音
excerpt:
"Everything stops when there's an accident. The mine closes down. The Stamp Mill stops stamping. The saloons go all quiet. People on the streets stop walking with a foot in midair almost. That's the only time it's quiet around here. Yesterday it rang thirty-seven times."
只有在礦坑出意外 敲鐘通知時
整個Bodie會安靜下來..每個人都擔心 是自己親近的人出事
小女孩也擔心 會是他的爸爸出事
每次的鐘響 都是一次驚嚇.
"Goodbye God, I'm going to Bodie."
女孩在前往Bodie之前 就跟上帝說了再見
她想 她要去的 是一個上帝幫不了她的地方.


學校裡面的東西 很多都還在

去這種地方 我總是會一直想像 當時的人 是怎樣在這種地方生活的

恐怖..
